New Initiative for Schools Empowerment & Development paid an advocacy visit to the L.E.A Primary School on 23rd April 2022, the School has a large number of young pupils and is located in the community of Waru, one of the suburbs of Abuja.
During our visit to the school, we discovered that this school lacks most of the facilities that make for a good and conducive environment for learning. Their critical needs are:
- Toilet facility and water
- School levy
- Desks and chairs
The young pupils of this school are also in dire need of welfare support, Most of them were barefooted without uniform and the basic writing materials. We learnt the school levy which covers for both uniforms and exams fees is #3,000 only for each pupil. Unfortunately, a good number of them could not afford to pay.
The lack of decent school uniform for these kids has left most of them looking unkempt and unfit for school. Also, the current state of their only toilet is absolutely poor and unhealthy for anyone especially little children. The health complications it may cause from continuous usage can be avoided if a better one is built.
We spoke with the head teacher and he had clearly stated that if these facilities are provided, it will help to promote a better environment and education for the pupils. He also appealed to good Nigerians to assist and support the school as much as possible.
Of all the identified needs of the school, we would like to seek public support to provide toilet facility and water for the use of both the students and teachers.
We would like to solicit the support of the indigenes, school alumni, political and social elites, corporate bodies and the general public to be a part of this project. It will go a long way in putting smiles on the faces of these students.
